This is my first ever letter in support of a political candidate! I couldn’t be happier to write one for Matt, a friend since elementary school who would be a fantastic school committee member. Melrose friends, I hope you all will consider voting for Matt Hartman for Melrose School Committee

I wholeheartedly support Matt Hartman for school committee. With his experience, initiative and dedication to our school community, I am confident that he will make a positive impact from the start. Like me, Matt has children in the Melrose school system. As a library volunteer and active member of his school community, Matt has insight into our schools from a parent perspective. Professionally, he has worked in the Massachusetts State Senate for over ten years as Legal Counsel and Chief of Staff for two senators, and in specific he's worked to advocate for school funding and improvement. He's worked on over ten state budgets, with cities and towns to advocate for school building funds, and on the Student Opportunity Act in 2019. More locally, Matt was a founding member of the OneMelrose campaign that supported the Melrose Public Schools. Matt also has the passion and drive needed to make positive change. From knocking on doors every weekend to talk with community members to meeting with school and community leaders, Matt has made it a priority to engage with, listen to and advocate for all members of our community.

The Melrose School Committee needs leaders who are forward-thinking, compassionate, and committed to equity and inclusivity. I am confident that Matt embodies these qualities and will work tirelessly to ensure that our schools provide the best possible opportunities for all students. I hope you will join me in voting for Matt on November 7th.

I am writing in support of Matt Hartman for Melrose School Committee. Melrose is a vibrant community, a community we have lived in for over two decades. A city where both my children have benefited from the investments made by the taxpayers and the educators that serve our community.

Like many communities, Melrose is at a crossroads. We have an aging school building infrastructure. We have students coming through the pandemic in need of academic and mental health support to accelerate their achievement. We have some of the lower paid educators in an area where educators are at a premium and a systemic built in budget deficit that has existed for a generation.

It’s a time for serious leadership, leadership that understands the complexities of local, state and federal funding for education. Matt understands that a budget is a moral document but also an intricate multi-million-dollar plan that must meet all the needs of our children, educators and families. It is time for leaders that understand data and evidence and incorporate it into decision making to improve educational policy.

Matt has the intelligence, passion, humanity and commitment to our students and families to make the right decisions to move our schools forward. The career experience to help make the tough fiscal decisions and help plan for our schools’ success for decades to come. The courage to stand for policies that work for all of our kids. I encourage you to look at Matt Hartman as one of your votes for school committee.
